"Leaders should be empathetic."

What was your reaction to that statement?

Are you cringing?

Turns out, 68% of CEOs say they fear they will be less respected if they show empathy. What???

Yet, 84% of employees from the same study believe empathy drives better leadership.

And the correct answer is...the employees!

Leaders who embrace empathy foster deeper trust, more effective collaboration, and stronger performance from their teams.

When people feel understood and valued, they bring their best selves to work. They take initiative, innovate, and stand by each other in times of challenge.

So, what's stopping you?

Are you concerned about showing weakness? Are you worried it will cloud your judgment?

Maybe it just feels safer to lead with authority, distance, or decisiveness?

Empathy allows leaders to see beyond the surface, to recognize hidden struggles, nurture potential, and respond to needs before they become crises. Employees feel empowered to speak, take risks, and grow. Leaders who lead with empathy build more resilient, adaptable, and loyal teams.

But empathy shouldn’t stop at the top. Great leaders actively encourage their teams to practice empathy too, building cultures of care and connection. When everyone leads with understanding, the workplace becomes not only more productive, but more human.

In a world full of change, uncertainty, and disconnection, empathy is no longer optional. It’s essential. Choose to lead with empathy - not because it’s easy, but because it’s powerful. Show others that listening, caring, and understanding are traits to be proud of, not hidden. Your compassion could be the spark that transforms your team and inspires others to do the same.
