Hello Jeanne!
Do people tell you what's going on? Are you "in the know?"
Or are you the last to hear about issues? Does everyone stop talking as you approach?
There are many reasons this could be happening but a big one is TRUST.
When trust is shaky, conversations get careful.
When trust is strong, people tell you what’s really going on.
They ask questions sooner. They take risks, admit mistakes, and stay focused on the work instead of protecting themselves. Things move faster because no one is second-guessing motives or bracing for fallout.
So how can you build trust? I realize it can seem daunting but I promise it IS possible!
Trust is built in everyday moments:
- keeping your word
- being honest when things are hard
- listening without defending yourself
- doing what you say you’ll do - especially when it’s uncomfortable.
People don’t need perfect leaders. They need consistent, human ones. When trust is there, everything else has a much greater chance of working.
Be. Here. Now.
