Hello Jeanne!
Leadership has a way of asking a lot from you...
- You solve problems all day
- There is pressure to achieve results
- You work extra hours to keep up
- and the list goes on...
It’s easy to tell yourself, “I deserve this.”
The skipped workout, the fast food, the extra drink at the end of a long day.
It feels like a reward, a relief. Well, my friend, it's really self-sabotage dressed up like self-soothing.
I see this a lot with leaders and maybe you’ve felt it too. The truth is, the habits that help you cope in the moment can quietly drain your energy, focus, and resilience over time.
Try this instead: pick one or two non-negotiables that ground you. This could include a short walk, better sleep, or simply eating something real. Keep it simple and doable - you don't need more overwhelm!
Start thinking of self-care as part of your leadership journey, not separate from it. How you show up for yourself is exactly how you show up for everyone else.
Be. Here. Now.
